University Village is owned by the J.A. Wedum Foundation, a non-profit family foundation that has, as its major objective, the enhancement of quality education and the facilitation of access to educational opportunity for a greater number of people in our society. The J.A. Wedum Foundation also owns the Keeler Apartments on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota's main campus.

Since 1999, "U Village" has been the preferred private housing choice of students, their parents and the University of Minnesota. The "U" has partnered with University Village in leasing housing space to discriminating university students since its opening and maintains its own Housing Office at the east end of the community.
